The inaugural episode of Visionaries of India features Angel One Limited’s founder, chairman, and managing director, Mr. Dinesh Thakkar. The stock brokerage firm that incepted in 1996 is now a Rs 4272 crore-worth major player in the financial services domain with a Rs 20,000 crore market cap, under Mr. Thakkar’s trailblazing reign. The wealth management company is a recipient of several brand accolades over the years and brags of being one of the associate partners of the Indian Premier League. The company was listed for IPO in 2020 and is currently ranked amongst the top 3 stock brokers in the country with over 50 lakh active clients. The tour de force behind Angel One, Mr. Dinesh Thakkar, is worth Rs 3,000 crore, which elegantly reflects in his opulent villa and exclusive car collections. But does money alone bringeth joy and purpose? The entrepreneur quips,
Money is not the only thing which can get you happiness.”
The show further delves into Dinesh Thakkar’s morning routine. The maverick remarks that he kick starts his day in the gym, which involves cardio, some stretching, and weight training. Thakkar recalls that in the early 2000’s while traveling to the US, when he picked up a few bags, he felt a jerk in the lower back. He was around 46 and never worked out. He states that businessmen believe only in working, and going for a morning jog is more than enough. The MRI for the nagging pain came, and it was one of the most prevalent injuries in the Indian working class and businessmen alike—slip disk! The doctor recommended around 2 months of bed rest, but Dinesh had business to do. After 15 days of sabbatical, the Angel One boss remarks,
I took the hospital bed in my office cabin so that I can work…”
But this act of desperation amid immense pain was a quick fix that would not work in the long run. Here’s what he did next. Watch the first episode of Visionaries of India on Mashable India with Sonia Shenoy.
