Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu recently shared that his wife, Navjot Kaur, overcame stage 4 breast cancer through a strict dietary regimen. However, his remarks have sparked concern among oncologists, who have warned against promoting unproven remedies for cancer treatment.

Dr. C.S. Pramesh, Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, shared a statement signed by 262 current and former oncologists from the institution, calling the claims “unscientific and baseless.” The statement countered Sidhu’s suggestion that his wife’s recovery was linked to dietary changes, including the use of turmeric, neem water, and apple cider vinegar, coupled with the avoidance of sugar and carbohydrates.
“Parts of the video imply that starving the cancer by not eating dairy products and sugar, consuming haldi (turmeric) and neem helped cure her ‘incurable’ cancer… These comments have no high quality evidence to support them,” the doctor said in a post on X.

In a press conference, Sidhu claimed that his wife, who was given a 5 percent chance of survival, was discharged from the hospital after 40 days following this regimen. He credited her recovery to consuming turmeric, neem water, and lemon water, while avoiding sugar and carbohydrates and drinking water with a pH level of 7.
Today he shared another video with the diet plan. However, in a separate post he said that, “surgeries, chemotherapy, hormonal and targeted therapy, a strict diet plan and determination to fight cancer, together they worked as immunotherapy.”

Sidhu’s remarks were made in the context of his wife’s recovery from stage 4 cancer, which he described as a transformative journey aided by lifestyle changes.
On the other hand, the oncologists said that there is no clinical evidence to support the use of turmeric or neem as effective anti-cancer agents. They urged cancer patients not to delay proven treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy in favor of unverified remedies.
“Cancer is curable if detected early and proven treatments for cancer include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy,” the statement read.
